In the beginning the B.P.D. or Orthodontic Bracket Positioning Device  was just an improvement on DR Fillion’s Modified TARG which in turn was made to better use the B.E.S.T. system from Dr Fillion…the principal being the same as the TARG system from Ormco and Kurz, Gorman, Smith, etc,  but adding another dimension in slot to vestibular thickness.  However with the BPD concentration was on precision and reliability via a linear slide for height movements of 0.01 mm by turning an adjustment screw using sound engineering principals. Now the technician could confidently place his brackets knowing the height would not move and the calipers were held securely.
The T.A.D. was a completely new idea, never seen in Orthodontic and recognizing that, rather than just a tool for setting pre-determined Torque and Angualtion values, such as the TARG blades of old, we needed an instrument that could also measure these values from a malocclusion model. Then we could determine the compensation values using biomechanical calculations and set the values required back into the tooth to be bonded using this versatility.

Using digital encoders and technology, blended with precise mechanical engineering we were able to create an instrument that would measure to 0.1 of a degree and give the read out on a digital screen to reduce human error and eye fatigue.

So we had a Survey tool and a setting tool that can be adjusted to virtually any angle for setting bracket positions for Lingual and Labial orthodontics.
